Stoneware, Inc. CEO to Present at Cloud Expo 2011 New York

Cloud Expo 2011 New York $800 Savings here! Much of cloud computing technology addresses the physical infrastructure and other issues such as elasticity. What has not been well defined is what cloud computing will look like to the end user. Users connecting to the cloud will expect the same organizing theme of a traditional desktop to manage and access cloud resources. While Windows has been the dominant desktop for the PC and laptop era, cloud computing needs a desktop capable of servicing the rapidly growing 'unmanaged device' market. These devices (iPads, Slates, smartphones, netbooks, etc.) will not all have Windows. They will, however, have a browser. In his session at the 8th International Cloud Expo, Rick German, Co-founder, CEO and Chief Technology Officer of Stoneware, Inc., will discuss how Stoneware's sole focus is to deliver private cloud services into a... Cloud Computing Expo - Schmidt Speaks

Jim Cramer’s been doing a stint on CNBC in the middle of the trading day and, being a Google booster, managed to entice Google’s usually standoffish CEO Eric Schmidt on the air the other day. Schmidt said Google’s stock wouldn’t split and that Google wouldn’t start issuing guidance (it would distract Googlers from “trying to change the world,” he said). He also reckoned online advertising will ultimately be worth a trillion dollars – when exactly is wholly unclear – maybe after Eric retires – and that Google could make more money from mobile than from the desktop. Mobile can be more targeted, he said. He shrugged off Gmail’s collapse the other day as “just a screw-up” and said that even if Google’s $1.6 billion YouTube acquisition turned into a loss leader because Google couldn’t monetized it he was confident it could be a feeder for Google. Naturally, he defended... (more)

Platform CEO Speaking Next Week at SYS-CON's Cloud Computing Expo November 19-21 in Silicon Valley

Are cloud computing and grid computing one and the same? "There are many similarities and one key difference separating these burgeoning fields," notes Songnian Zhou is Co-Founder & CEO of Platform Computing, part of a star-studded lineup of speakers next week at SYS-CON's 1st International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo. "Both cloud and grid propose an architecture that masks the complexity of managing thousands of commodity servers from their users," Zhou continues. "Consequently, those managing a grid or cloud require specialized management tools designed for large scale implementation - making it possible to manage a large number of servers without requiring an army of administrators." He will be giving a session entitled "The Intersection of Cloud and Grid Computing" exploring these similarities and differences and discuss the future of cloud and grid computin... (more)

Linthicum, an internationally known technology expert and a sought-after consultant, speaker and writer, will be giving a not-to-be-missed session on "Winning with Cloud Computing" - a candid and hype-less look what it takes to be successful with cloud computing within the traditional enterprise. "Those that think that cloud computing is quick and easy to implement have not yet begun a migration to the cloud," says Linthicum, adding: "There is much to think about, including the business case for migrating core business processes and information to cloud computing providers, and the process to get there without disrupting the business. Indeed, there's muc... (more)

Customizing Your Private Cloud

When looking at creating a cloud of application environments, private clouds are attractive to many users because of the control, insight, and security they offer. However, besides these things, there is another key benefit afforded by private cloud application environments: customizability. Customizations in application environments are important to many enterprises since in many cases those customizations represent a competitive differentiation. For this reason, the new WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance places a high importance on allowing users to fully customize the WebSphere middleware environments that it dispenses into the private cloud. To produce customized WebSphere middleware environments, users create custom virtual images and custom WebSphere patterns (representations of WebSphere middleware environments). The virtual image used in the WebSphere CloudB... (more)
